PWSS is pleased to announce that we are now able to offer oral fluid saliva drug testing to your facility. In the State of Texas, According to Senate Bill 6, As of January 1, 2006, a residential child care operation must have a drug testing policy.
This information is reiterated in HRC Chapter 42.057.
The service we offer is a lab-based oral fluid saliva test*. The advantages to using this type of drug testing is that it:
1) Enables the collection process to be non-invasive, not drawing blood or collecting urine
2) Enables direct observation during the collection process, which drastically reduces the opportunity for tampering and the use of adulteration products
3) Enables accurate testing for drugs of abuse taken from almost instantly to up to 5 days prior to testing via lab-based results and verification
The screening would include:
1) A screener verifying ID
2) Collecting the saliva specimen
3) Completing a chain of custody form (lab-based test, if applicable)
4) Specimen sent for Lab Analysis (lab-based test,if applicable)
5) Medical Review Officer report/verification for presumed positive results
The drugs we can test for in the basic 5 panel are:
1) THC (Marijuana)
2) Cocaine
3) PCP
4) Opiates
5) Amphetamines
K-2, Adderall, Methamphetamine, Methadone, Barbiturates, Buprenorphine, Oxycodone,Benzodiazepines and Alcohol testing is available, also, at additional charges.
Random testing is proven to be the most effective deterrent against drug abuse.
As with our other screenings, we will need to have a minimum to screen in your area to send a team out. However, if you are a small facility, we can still help you when we are in your area screening at other facilities.
If you would like to get on our calendar, please contact us for scheduling & pricing.
We look forward to assisting you with your drug-testing program.
* As an alternative, we can offer a more rapid, non lab-based, oral fluid test upon request.
PWSS, LLC. is now offering cutting-edge hair testing to screen for drugs of abuse. The lab-based test gives an approximate 90 day history of any drug use using a few strands of hair.
This Lab-Based Test will detect:
Is there a risk that the results of a hair test can be affected by environmental contamination?
The lab we use employs several independent approaches which, in various combinations, rule out the possibility of a positive result from external contamination.
The first method involves extensive chemical washing of the hair specimen prior to screening, followed by analysis of the content of the wash. This wash analysis is a critical step to ensure that any contamination is effectively accounted for.
Additionally, the lab measures the presence of metabolites. If drugs were in the air or on a person’s hands and thereby got on a person’s hair from outside, the drug would be present as the drug substance itself, and not as certain metabolites or with metabolite/parent drug ratios which are known to be produced by ingestion.
The labs’ ability to distinguish and measure metabolites with its highly sensitive GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS equipment is one criteria used to eliminate the possibility of false positives from external contamination.
In addition, any positive internal contamination (e.g., from passive inhalation or even poppy seed consumption) is distinguished from deliberate drug use by setting GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS cut-off levels above those which can be produced by passive internal exposure. Studies have shown that the combination of extensive washing, metabolite analysis, and proper cut-off levels are necessary to avoid false positives due to external contamination.
How much hair is needed?
The labs’ standard screen, along with GC/MS/MS or LC/MS/MS confirmation, usually requires a cosmetically undetectable lock of hair preferably snipped from the back of the head, just below the crown. In general, the amount needed is the thickness of a shoelace tip. Hair analysis methods used by other laboratories may require significantly more hair. CLICK HERE TO GO DIRECTLY TO OUR ORDERING PAGE!

Dyslexia Pre-Screening
PWSS is pleased to provide our clients with an invaluable dyslexia pre-screening utilizing the Mississippi Dyslexia Therapy Association's Screener.
Why does a child struggle academically? Is he unmotivated, uninterested or maybe even a bit defiant when facing the challenges of schoolwork? Why is he not achieving up to his full potential? Could it be dyslexia?
Reading skills for a dyslexic child usually “hit a snag” at about 3rd grade when students start learning more multi-syllabic words.
Would you like to have a pre-screening for dyslexia for the children in your school/day care that could tell a parent if they need to pursue a diagnosis from the school or from a dyslexic professional?
Some of us working with Pine Woods Screening Services, LLC. have family members who are dyslexic. We’ve searched and researched many aspects of dyslexia. We found that dyslexia is highly inherited. Research shows that 20% of the general population are dyslexic in either mild, moderate, severe or profound degrees. This has nothing to do with a child’s intelligence. In fact, very often, dyslexic children/adults have higher than average intelligence and an over abundance of creativity via musical, artistic or athletic talent.
We, at Pine Woods Screening Services, LLC, became passionate about finding a screening tool that will find these children so that, like our other screening tools, their parents/guardians/schools can get help and accommodations for any child in need. Help is in the way of a professional diagnostician and professional dyslexia tutor so that a dyslexic child can start to learn to read and spell using a method that will work for them. Accommodations in the classroom and at homework time can be used to modify their learning environment so that they can catch up and/or keep up with their peers.
Early detection is key. With that, we have found the Mississippi Dyslexia Therapy Association Screener in partnership with the William Carey University in Hattiesburg, MS to screen Kindergarteners in their 2nd semester of school and/or 1st graders up to their 1st semester of school.
As with all screenings, this is not a diagnostic tool. This screening points out indicators that signify dyslexia may be the cause of your child struggling with his/her learning so that a child who fails this screening can proceed on to a licensed professional for further diagnosis.
*If you would like to get on our calendar, please contact us for scheduling & pricing. We look forward to screening your children.
